Who is it for

This course is suitable for all members of the project team - clients, designers, contractors and operators.  The course is also aimed at local and county authority staff that have a responsibility for ensuring best practice compliance for sustainable development.

What is it about

This one day course is about encouraging you to consider your projects differently and equipping you with the tools and know how to revise your design decisions, construction processes and maintenance plans. You will be able to assess the impact and returns for your decisions, undertaking a technology, ecology and commercial benefit analysis through case study and group exercise.

Sustainable development is now a key requirement for design, construction and maintenance. It is a rapidly growing construction sector and one which has widespread support through legislation, guidance and best practice advice. Sustainable development is also providing commercial advantage and opening up new opportunities across the industry.

During the course you will consider the key aspects of sustainable development, including:

  • The drivers - moral, financial and legislative
  • The options - design, construction, and new technology
  • The impact - during design, construction and end use
  • The returns - social, environmental and commercial.

You will identify and define new approaches to business processes within your particular areas of expertise, enabling you to understand sustainability and its implementation through lateral thinking, efficient working and alignment with guidance and legislation.

The course is highly interactive utilising case study and group work throughout the day to deliver against its objectives. The training is focussed and immediately deployable delivering practical, useable and effective advice for you, your projects and your clients.

This module is part of a suite of “how to” sustainable development courses that focus on delivering best practice advice in an effective, understandable and useable way.

The tutor is a former director of sustainability at Constructing Excellence and has a wealth of experience of developing and delivering practical solutions on a wide variety of projects for public and private clients. A subject expert with extensive hands on knowledge, the tutor is managing director of a leading specialist environmental consultancy.
